Happy New Year! Now that we are fully in the season of cold weather, we would like to share information on emergency weather-related school closings.
You may also be hearing about staff shortages in schools and businesses around Lancaster as a result of the pandemic. Penn Manor and our bus companies are experiencing increased staff absences, and we want to share the procedures we will follow should your child’s school need to temporarily shift to full remote learning due to staff shortages. Closures of this type may impact only individual schools or all schools in the district.
Weather-related closures School closings and delays will be posted on the Penn Manor website and Twitter, and reported on local radio and television stations before 6:00 a.m., whenever possible. When inclement weather conditions result in an early closing, parents will be notified via automated phone call. Phone calls will NOT be made for closings/delays announced before the school day begins. Parents and caregivers should confirm that their phone number and email contact information in Sapphire is accurate. Please see emergency information on the Penn Manor website for details on how to keep your contact information current, as well as modified delay schedules.
Penn Manor has committed to using built-in weather make-up days prior to using flexible instructional days (also known as “cyber snow days”) approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. We will communicate additional information should built-in weather make-up days be exhausted.
COVID-related closures While the school district will attempt to avoid virtual instruction related to the pandemic, it may be necessary to shift to full remote instruction (either individual buildings or the entire school district) in the event that staffing is not available to properly operate building(s).
If the district shifts to full remote, students and faculty will follow the Full Remote Schedule that can be found at the links below.
The GIANT Company is once again raising funds to help feed children through its “Round Up at the Register” program. From January 1 and through February 28, 2022, anyone who shops at Giant, Martin’s or Giant Heirloom Market stores can participate by “rounding up” their purchases to the next dollar. Last year, Penn Manor received nearly $11,000 from Giant to pay off cafeteria account balances for students whose families are struggling financially, so this program directly benefits Penn Manor students.
Penn Manor identifies the value in hosting children and families to school events prior to their enrollment in their first day of kindergarten. This allows all of our students to feel comfortable in school environments prior to the first day of school. We are delighted to announce the return of our early childhood Lunch and Learn program. All preschool children, age 3- Pre-K and their parent/guardian, are invited to attend the Lunch and Learn events scheduled at our seven elementary schools.
This once a month event will consist of story time, craft, lunch and a special visit to the library to check out books that will be returned the following month. Lunch and Learn events are hosted in the middle day and every family in attendance is the recipient of the book we are featuring that month. Please take a look at the schedule attached for these lunch and learn events around district. We hope you consider attending.
Remember, siblings are welcome and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
