Dismissal Procedures and Safety Reminders

I want to give a shout out to our parents for using their orange name signs when picking up their children. We think it has improved our ability to quickly and safely dismiss our students at the end of the day. Please continue to use them! Yesterday, from the time we released car riders and walkers from their classrooms at 3:25 it took 8 minutes to release all the car riders. We often have 45 students a day who are walkers or car riders so it really is an efficient system. Having said that, I am asking that parents understand that the side door is a very busy place. Which is why I am asking that parents please do not make it even tougher to monitor where every child is going by parking in the front parking lot and going around the building to pick up your child. If you do not physically walk your child to his or her house then you need to wait in the car line. That has been the procedure at Conestoga for the 14 years I have been principal here. You might think you are helping to speed things up or you might not want to wait the 8-12 minutes in the car line, but what is actually happening is you are making it more confusing for the staff to monitor where students are going. If you need to pick your child up before the 3:30 dismissal time then please write a note, park in the lower lot, and pick your child up in the office.
