To celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday today, first graders had an enjoyable afternoon in the all-purpose room making apple pictures, making applesauce, and enjoying all things apples. Thank you parent volunteers for helping to make this event a success for the children.
Once a month we are required to have a fire drill. Today was the day we did the drill for the month of September. However, about an hour or so later, we had a REAL fire drill. The alarm went off on its own and our wonderful Conestoga volunteer firemen came to the school to check things out. The building was thoroughly examined room by room, and the conclusion was that it was either a faulty smoke detector or a nearby neighbor burning leaves.
Most importantly, your children were always safe!! We can Conestoga “PROUDly” say that the students, along with the teachers, evacuated the building in their normal, orderly, and quiet fashion, just like we practiced!
A fun morning was had by our teachers and staff thanks to the PTO. We were all treated with yummy breakfast items, made by some of our wonderful families at Conestoga Elementary School, as well as Starbucks coffee.
Everyone enjoyed the trivia game and it’s a fun way to get to know each other a little better.
Come out to join us tomorrow morning at 8:30 for breakfast and welcome our teachers and staff back to this new year!
Get to know our teachers with some fun and interesting trivia while enjoying a free breakfast, Starbucks coffee and meeting some new parents!

The PTO will be collecting Box Tops for Education again this year! This is an easy way to earn money for our school. Buy your favorite Box Tops products, Cut out the Box Top around the dotted line, and Send your Box Tops to school with your child. There is a collection box in the lobby.
Conestoga gets cash twice a year for every Box Top collected. The PTO will use this money to help fund field trips, assemblies, and other fun activities for our students. Be sure to ask your friends and family to collect/cut for our school too! Please bring in your box tops by October 10 for the fall deadline, and then continue collecting for our spring box top contest!
Dear Penn Manor Families:
To better prepare our elementary students for the increased state expectations and to specifically meet the changes brought about by the adoption of the Pennsylvania Core Standards, we have shifted to the use of new math materials that align with these necessary changes. These new McGraw Hill “My Math” materials are an extension of the McGraw Hill “Math Connects” materials we used from kindergarten through grade five and the Glenco, Course One materials we used in grade six for the past five years. These new, carefully aligned materials will expose our students to the increased need for the application of the concepts taught and better prepare our students for the future.
We are fortunate to have been able to provide our teachers and students with the resources needed to stay current. Please note: There will also be an on-line component available to parents/guardians starting October 1st that will include tutorials, re-teaching guides and practice materials to help you assist your child at home as needed.
Should your child be experiencing particular difficulty, please make sure you communicate this to your child’s classroom teacher so that re-teaching guides can be sent home until our on-line option is available to you or should you not have internet access at home.
We appreciate your continued support at home. Please contact your child’s principal should you have any questions.
Thank you to Hannah Thomas and Melanie Hopstetter, two artistic moms who came up with the design of this neat sign and kindly painted it for us. They even solicited some little “helping helds” for the finishing touches.
It’s a big improvement to see this sign when you walk up to the front door area of our school.
Be sure to check it out the next time you visit.
