Welcome Back!

Well it is that time of year again. Summer goes amazingly fast and then before you know it the first day of school is right around the corner. While I love the slow pace of summer, I am ready for the excitement and energy of the first day of school! The Conestoga staff has been working tirelessly to get the building ready to welcome back our returning students and to welcome some new faces to our building. Speaking of new faces, we have several new teachers that have joined our Conestoga team this year. Alison Witmer is our new kindergarten teacher, Megan Miller is our new first grade teacher, Ellen Finger joins us as our Academic Support teacher, Bethany Bachman is our new school nurse, and Jason Binkley and John Young join us as our new physical education teachers. We want to extend a big welcome to all of them and are very excited that they are at Conestoga Elementary this year. We know they will find this a positive and supportive learning environment because here at Conestoga, we follow three main rules: thinking safety first, using our time wisely, and treating everyone with kindness and respect. We care and support each other as we learn and grow.
Speaking of safety, I do want to pass on some reminders for the new school year. Our school day starts at 9 and ends at 3:25. The doors into the main lobby stay locked until 8:45, so please do not drop your child off any earlier than that time unless a prior arrangement has been made because of a before school activity. Also, if you need to change your child’s end of day transportation you didn’t send a note in with your child that morning, please let us know before noon that day. That gives us plenty of time to let the teacher and your child know of the change and make sure he or she gets into the correct line at the end of the day. The last reminder is that if you are dropping off something in the morning, please leave it in the office and we will have your child or the teacher come down and get it at a time that doesn’t interrupt the class. I appreciate your cooperation and support. One last thing to remember – it takes a while in the first few weeks of school for all of our bus drivers to get their bus runs down. What that means is that it will take a little longer for your child to get home the first two weeks of school. They are just being very careful to make sure the right child gets off at the right stop. The times get gradually shorter as the days go on. Again welcome back. I know this is going to be a wonderful and exciting school year.
