Work Day Success!

What a great time Saturday!  Thank you to everyone who came out and helped.  We had soil in the boxes and cleanup started by 10 a.m.  The weather left something to be desired, but there was no downpour of rain.  That was a blessing!

We want to give a big THANK YOU to Clancy who came thru with the mini front loader and saved us TONS of back work.  Clancy you rock!!

The kids filled buckets and passed them up to the garden where more kids dumped them into the beds.  Moms and Dads had Clancy fill wheel barrels and pushed them around where a few heaved them into the boxes as a team.

More of us stayed in the garden and just sifted through the soil to pull out plant tags, old pots and plants.  It was used potting soil from Tudbink’s Greenhouses.  This was fabulous because we didn’t need to amend it at all.  Tudbink’s also gets a HUGE THANK YOU for donating all of the soil!!! After a long day of on-site work and preparation for their grand opening Saturday they delivered our soil at 12:30 a.m. and even covered it with a HUGE piece of plastic.  WOW!!!  It was also the PERFECT amount of soil!

So now we plant.  Tomorrow the 3rd graders will do the first planting.  It will be 4 salad beds laid out in quilt patch designs.  Thank you, Beth, for coming up with this great idea.  Third and sixth graders worked together to design each “patch” on a piece of paper.  They will include veggies like radishes, lettuce, carrots, swiss chard, Pat choy, etc.  I can’t wait to see it in a month or so.

The first coat of paint also was applied this past Sunday.  THANK YOU JASON MOWERY!!!  He has worked hard to get that fence lookin’ good.  We will be applying the next coat in about a week or so.

Next will be the chain link and arbor which Brian Hess has agreed to install with the help of his small group from church.  Thank you Brian!!!

The shed will also be going in with in a few weeks.   We have purchased it from Backyard Creations on Marticville Road.  They will build it in large pieces and and then deliver them.  Some Millersville Tech students will assemble it on site for us.  We can’t wait to see the finished product and think you will be pleased.

So thank you again for getting involved, donating, and encouraging.  We have the BEST team!
